Eleanor Burns will be presenting “Quilt Blocks on American Barns” on Wednesday June 23rd at 10 am and 2 pm at the Blue Gate Theater, and June 24 at 10 am at the Blue Gate Theater.

Seating is limited. Registrations will begin on March 15th, 2010 at 9 am EST.

Join our favorite farmer’s daughter, Eleanor Burns, as she pays tribute to rural America’s Barn Quilt Blocks. Today, there are numerous Barn Quilt Trails all over farmland USA. This fun tradition began in 2001 in Manchester, Ohio where a woman painted a quilt block on the family’s barn to honor her mother, an avid quilter! The local community joined in and soon painted quilt blocks on their barns. These barns have now become tourist’s attractions with maps pinpointing each barn location.

Learn a variety of new techniques as Eleanor demonstrates how to make several pieced barn blocks, each with a miniature quilt block pattern. Corn & Beans, Flying Kite, and Pinwheel are just a few of the block techniques she will show.

Come and join the fun as Eleanor does her farm chores and embellishes her barns with creative touches!

About Eleanor Burns

Thirty years ago Eleanor Burns introduced her first Quilt in a Day book, beginning a quilt making revolution. Her concise, step-by-step directions were easy to grasp, allowing anyone to be successful at making a quilt. Eleanor Burns gave quilt makers techniques that compacted months into merely a day, a quilt in a day.

Since 1978, when Eleanor self-published that first book "Make a Quilt in a Day: Log Cabin Pattern," she has become a prolific author, revered teacher trainer, popular television personality, and celebrated industry role model. She has authored over eighty additional books, trained thousands of instructors throughout the world and pioneered the way people view quiltmaking with her television series, Quilt in a Day, which began airing on PBS in 1990 and is still broadcasting nationwide and abroad.

Adding to all of that, she has developed her own "Signature” fabric lines with Benartex, several special edition sewing machines with Tacony Corporation, makers of Baby Lock Sewing Machines, and received numerous awards including, the Michael Kile Award of Achievement in 1999 Bestowed upon her by Quilts, Inc., the host of International Quilt Market, for her support of the quilting industry and her work to achieve a long-lasting effect for the advancement of quilting. She was also the recipient of Primedia Awards of excellence in 1992, 1994, 1998, 2003 and the American Quilters Society All American Quilter in 2005.
