Sue Reich’s WWII Quilts - "Quiltmaking 1941 to 1945 - The War Years"

Hudson Museum ExhibitThe Shipshewana Quilt Festival is proud to present the private collection of Sue Reich’s WWII quilts June 20-23, 2012. This exhibit of WWII era quilts is a true treasure and has visited the National Quilt Museum, the New England Quilt Museum and the Huntsville Museum of Art to name a few. Uniquely displayed in Hostetler's Hudson Auto Museum, amidst the world's largest display of early 1900's Hudson cars, this showing gives the quilts an added dimension.

The exhibit will be comprised of over 30 WWII quilts and tops with strong provenance, and the ephemera to anchor them historically in time. The ephemeron includes photographs, V mail, ration books, parachute samples, magazines and a newspaper quilting patterns collection.

Come experience a truly unique blend of Quilts and Cars of the WWII era!

Admission is included with the purchase of a day or event Quilt & Vendor Show Pass.

Quilts were created during wartime to express support for the troops, to raise money for the cause and to memorialize those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Between 1941-1945, women were busy working in the defense industries, planting Victory Gardens, and keeping the home fires burning. Newspaper articles from the War years report women quiltmaking in record numbers. These quilts, made while their sons, husbands, brothers, and loved ones were on the battlefront, have been packed away in attics and trunks for 60 years. As the members of “The Greatest Generation” continue to leave us, their children, the Baby Boomers are discovering these hidden treasures.
