TA1 | Quiltster Color Planning: Design a Desert Sky | Workshop         
Judel Niemeyer | 9 am - 12 pm |  $39

Limited to 30 students. All Skill Levels Welcome.

Work with Judel in a hands-on demonstration of Quiltster, the foremost color planning tool for quilters. Quiltster is a cloud-based program that allows you to pair commercially available patterns & fabrics from across the quilting industry to create your own one-of-a-kind quilt. 

 

This workshop includes a 3-month subscription to the Quiltster program and will focus on one of Judy's most popular introductory design, "Desert Sky". Come experience how easy the creation of your own project can be.

TAP1 | Quiltworx Watermelon Placemats | Workshop         
Jackie Kunkel, Quiltworx Certified Instructor | 9 am - 5 pm |  $87

Limited to 24 students. All Skill Levels Welcome.

This workshop begins with Quiltworx’s founder, Judy Niemeyer, followed by

certified instructor, Jackie Kunkel. The Watermelon Placemat introduces you

to the basics of paper-piecing, chain piecing, and speed cutting. In addition, this

class incorporates many additional techniques normally reserved for multi-day

classes including: curved paper-piecing, smart corners, TRP Lines, curved traditional piecing, and appliqué. This great little project affords the opportunity

to learn many techniques in a one-day setting.

TP1 | Embellished Miniature Machine Appliqué | Workshop         
Pat Holly | 2 pm - 5 pm |  $47

Limited to 25 students. All Skill Levels Welcome.

Join Pat in exploring the sewing machine’s capabilities beyond appliqué and quilting. Learn how to prepare the fabric, try various threads, and best of all, play with your machine’s decorative and utility stitches. In addition, learn the skills Pat developed in making her award-winning miniature machine appliquéd quilts to prepare and stitch tiny appliqué shapes using the raw edge fusible blanket stitch. After your background is prepared, use it to create a simple bird pattern mini postcard picture.

FAP2 | Norwegian Heart & Birds: Wool Appliqué | Workshop         
Sue Nickels | 9 am - 5 pm |  $87
(Break 12 pm - 2 pm)

Limited to 25 students. All Skill Levels Welcome.

Wool is used to create a beautiful machine appliquéd quilt project! Sue's original

design is inspired by a trip to Norway and the folk-art images and colors of that

unique country. Use a fusible and a machine blanket stitch to create this small

folksy quilt. Embellishment will be added for an even more personalized touch.

A kit will be available to make this a fun and stress-free workshop.

TA2 | Vintage VW Full of Cheer | Workshop         
Stacy West | 9 am - 12 pm |  $47

Limited to 50 students. All Skill Levels Welcome.

Have you ever wanted to try working with wool or considered adding wool to an existing project? In this class, while making this vintage VW pillow top, Stacy will be teaching her tried and true Soft Fuse Wool Appliqué technique that will make working with wool a breeze and yield beautiful results. Regardless of where you are in your journey of working with wool, you will be able to learn new tips and techniques along with a few fun stitches to enhance your project. Once you learn her technique, you will be fearless when it comes to wool.

  • Workshop fees do not include fabric or supply costs

  • Workshops may have required kits, tools or books that may be pre-purchased and waiting for you in the classroom

  • Provide your email address upon registration to receive information about workshop requirements and purchasing options after June 10

  • BERNINA sewing machines are available to rent for workshops if you choose. Machines will be at the workshop location ready for you, supplied by The Cotton Corner in Shipshewana. For details, call The Cotton Corner at 260-768-7393.

List of basic supplies

​The following basic sewing supplies are expected for each class. Additional supplies may be necessary and will be indicated in the class description. Pressing stations are available in classrooms.

  • Needles (sewing machine & hand)

  • Neutral thread (machine & hand)

  • Thread to match fabric

  • Thimble

  • Pins (appliqué, standard & safety)

  • Scissors (fabric, 4" embroidery & paper)

  • Sharp pencils & eraser

  • Fabric marking pens or pencils

  • Small trash bag

  • Rotary cutter, ruler & mat (minimum 18" x 24")

  • Seam ripper

Note: Do not reproduce class handouts and teach the class to your guild or at a quilt shop without written consent from the instructor.

If you realize you have forgotten a basic supply, tool or notion from your class list, check us out! An on-site kiosk will offer all basic supplies and other tools, notions and kits required for all workshops. Located near the classrooms in the Farmstead Inn, the supply kiosk will open approximately one hour before each workshop session on Thursday & Friday.
